Air travelers departing from Newark Liberty International Office will likely face “temporary inconvenience” and delays, not on the roads but at the aerodrome’s security checkpoints.

“The Transportation Security Administration  will be upgrading screening technology at Newark Liberty International Airport, in order to provide the best security technology solutions for passengers,” the agency said in a statement.

“To ensure continued operations and maintain a state of good repair, construction and maintenance activities may occur from time to time at the airport,” it added. “The Port Authority of NY & NJ understands construction and maintenance may cause temporary inconvenience and works closely with contractors to ensure impacts to customers are minimized.”

Travelers are being told to arrive two hours before flights departing from Terminal A while the upgrade work is being performed and three hours prior to departure while the work is being performed in Terminal B.

Terminal A’s screening lane technology upgrades will begin on Monday, May 6 and continue through Friday, May 10. The work in Terminal B will start on May 21 and continue through June 21.

Passengers flying on Alaska Airlines and Spirit Airlines can use the EWR Reserve service to make a reservation in advance for expedited security clearance.
